the good loaf bread knife
(cuts bread. not corners)

This knife was chosen for one job: cutting naturally fermented bread with a bold crust and a soft inside. It’s sharp where it matters, forgiving where it should be, and happiest when treated with a bit of respect.

The honest specs

German steel: DIN 1.4116 (X50CrMoV15)

X = high-alloy stainless steel. 50 = approx. 0.5 % carbon. Cr = chromium. Mo = molybdenum. V = vanadium. 15 = approx. 15 % chromium.

Hardness: 56–58 HRC

Measured on the Rockwell C scale.

Length: 9” blade

Measured from heel to tip (approx. 23 cm).  Longer than most kitchen knives.

How to use it

Let the knife do the work. A gentle back-and-forth motion is enough. No pressing, no rushing. Bread — and your surroundings — respond better to calm behavior when a 9” blade is in your hands.

A word about boards

Wooden boards are best, especially end-grain boards. End-grain boards allow the blade to cut between fibers rather than across them, which is gentler on the blade and surprisingly hygienic. Metal and titanium boards may look great, but your knife would prefer wood.

Care & sharpening

Wash by hand, dry right away, and store the blade protected. Serrated bread knives don’t need frequent sharpening — with normal home use, it may take years.

If you purchased the wooden sheath: good choice. It keeps both you and the knife safe. The sheath is made from hardwood — do not wash it. Simply wipe it clean and, from time to time, apply a small amount of food-grade mineral oil. The same care applies to the wooden handle.

our 5-Year Limited Warranty
(yes, we’re that confident)

Good tools should last. And when they’re made well and treated with a bit of respect, they usually do. That’s why The Good Loaf bread knife comes with a 5-year limited warranty, starting from the date of purchase. The wooden magnetic sleeve is excluded from this warranty, as natural wood may show wear, marks, or changes over time. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is not transferable.

What we’ve got you covered for

(things that shouldn’t go wrong)

If something goes wrong due to a manufacturing or material defect during normal domestic use, we’ll take care of it. Depending on the situation, The Good Loaf, at its discretion, will: repair the knife, replace it with an equivalent one, or offer a fair alternative solution.

What this warranty doesn’t cover

(aka: things the knife really doesn’t enjoy)

This warranty does not cover issues caused by: misuse, accidents or general mistreatment, dishwashers, leaving the knife wet, unloved or unprotected, cutting on unsuitable surfaces such as metal, stone, glass, ceramic or titanium, cutting or contact with hard or inappropriate materials including bones, frozen foods, shells or other excessively hard items, and normal wear and tear, cosmetic changes or gradual loss of sharpness. You get the idea. Sharpening and routine maintenance are not covered.

Warranty registration

(optional but recommended)

To register your knife, please provide your invoice or order number. This allows us to verify the purchase date and handle any warranty claim quickly and fairly. The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. Proof of purchase is required for warranty claims.
